As if navigating airport security isn’t already annoying enough, now one employee at Greater Rochester International Airport thought it’d be a good idea to slip insulting notes to travelers who are just trying to get to their flight.
The man who received the note, Neal Strassner, thought the employee was handing him a piece of trash, so he simply pocketed it to throw it away later. It wasn’t until the employee called after him and said, “Are you going to open that?” that he realized it was a note.
When he opened the note and saw the words, “You ugly!!!” written on the piece of cardboard, the employee doubled over with laughter at Strassner’s expense. Her behavior resembles something a grade school bully would do.
Strassner obtained the CCTV footage through a Freedom of Information Act request and then uploaded it to his YouTube channel ‘capnskull’ on August 14th, 2019. The video has since gone viral. In the video, you can see the airport employee laughing at her own cruel idea of a joke. Her coworkers, however, seem to be none the wiser. This might mean that the employee was doing this for her own amusement and didn’t need the encouragement from anybody else to do this unprofessional prank.
Now, everyone is left wondering what a grown adult woman has to gain from treating a total stranger this way. Strassner is still trying to comprehend why the employee would risk her own job just to pass a childish note. “I really have no idea what she was trying to do.”
Strassner, although surprised by her actions, was able to act like an adult and brush the situation off. But, when he started telling the story to his friends and family, they encouraged him to report her to her supervisors. He realized that if her actions continue, other travelers may not be able to forget about her insults as easily as Strassner did.
After Strassner reported the bully, he claims her employers were speechless, further proving that this isn’t common behavior amongst the employees of the Rochester Airport. The TSA responded to these events in a statement saying, “TSA holds contractors to the highest ethical standards and has zero tolerance for this type of behavior.”
What do you guys think? Was this just a harmless prank or is it an action that should be taken very seriously?
