No matter how cool they actually are, Dads will always embarrass themselves, both for their kids and for wider audiences. Even if that dad is Orlando Bloom, one of the coolest dudes out there. Ruinmyweek.com noted how the accomplished actor recently got a sentimental tattoo, consisting of his 9-year-old son’s name in morse code. The Independent specifically noted how the tattoo also featured his son’s day and time of birth, drawn in a minimalist style. The bad news? For people who know morse code, it was awkwardly misspelled.
Eagle-eyed viewers took not of the mistake and were quick to point it out. In addition to the many, many comments on his Instagram post, The HuffPost even interviewed morse code experts. They also verified that the fans were correct, and based on a very tiny error, Bloom’s tattoo definitely didn’t translate to ‘Flynn’. Because the word was missing a crucially placed dot, the name ‘Flynn’ was changed to ‘Frynn”, which was most definitely not intentional on Bloom’s part, or on the part of his tattoo artist Balazs Bercsenyi.
Not to worry though, because after numerous comments came in, Bloom reunited with his tattoo artist for Round 2 of Bloom’s tattoo. Bercsenyi uploaded a new photo to his Instagram page, showing that he had kept close attention to peoples’ responses, as well as poked a little fun at the fantasy movie star.
The artist even included a small tattoo honoring Bloom’s deceased pet dog Sidi. Maybe next time Bloom opts for a tatoo, he shouldn’t trust Pinterest designs so quickly. Once Bloom’s son grows up, I’m sure he can truly appreciate his dad’s adorable mix-up. Until then, we’ll be on the lookout for any more awakward tattoo blunders.
