Dress code, it’s normal to have some standard in the workplace on what apparel is appropriate and what is not. While this company has a dress code, they’ve decided to add something a little extra for their female employees: a cash bonus for wearing a skirt.
Yes you heard right. A company in Russia, called Totprof, is offering its female employees bonuses if they opt to wear a skirt to work instead of pants. Wait until you hear the requirements. In order to qualify, the skirt must be 5 centimeters from the knee or shorter and a photo must be sent in for approval. The bonus for this dress code is a meager 100 roubles (approximately $1.50).
Why would they do this? The company says that it wants to preserve femininity. A spokesperson for the team stated, “We wanted to brighten up our work days, our team is 70% male. These kinds of campaigns help us switch off, rest. This is a great way to unite the team.” Many have stated their opinion of the controversial rules, criticizing it as going ‘too far’. This optional dress code policy is not the only method the company utilizes to enforce gender roles, they stated that they also host ‘”femininity and masculinity” events.
