Teenage Daughter Makes Her Gen-X Father A Meme Guide

Let’s face the facts: anyone who currently isn’t a teenager will have to put some effort into keeping up with current memes and internet slang. For those who are unaware, the Merriam-Webster dictionary defines a meme as “An amusing or interesting item (such as a captioned picture or video) or genre of items that is spread widely online, especially through social media.” Memes move in and out of social media quite rapidly, so once a person thinks they know what “okay, boomer” refers to, there could be a totally new term to get used to. Thankfully, some clueless adults out there have expert teenage daughters to lend them a helping hand.

Ruinmyweek first reported on how Jon Acoff received the perfect up-to-date guide on meme culture by his 16-year-old daughter, L.E. Acuff. She hand-wrote numerous definitions, examples, and even cut and pasted popular images, all in one handy print guide. I’m sure her father appreciated not having to stare at another screen. You’re probably wondering what a meme guide actually looks like, so check out the pictures below:

A well-organized table of contents starts us off, in case John feels too lost or overwhelmed with the amount of information. Dividing memes up by category and social media platform allows for him to understand in more manageable chunks. She even made special note of the celebrities who have achieved meme status themselves. This holiday gift took a seriously impressive amount of time to create. Hopefully, as new meme develop and older ones cycle out, L.E. Acuff will be making new editions to her guide, so her father doesn’t resume being terribly lost. I think that everyone’s parents could use this sort of thing. Frankly, most people over the age of 17 could use a refresher too! We’ll be sure to cover any and all breaking meme developments, to make sure that the readers themselves aren’t completely lost.
